Bhubaneswar: Defending champions Kalinga Bidyapitha, Sampur, rode on a goal each by Siba Prasad Bhoii and Suryakanta Majhi to beat Delhi Public School, Kalinga, by 2-0 in the second semifinal of the MCL Cup 29th Bhubaneswar Inter-School Football Tournament at Unit-VI Boys’ High School Ground here on Thursday.
Kalinga Bidyapitha will now lock horns with Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) in the final on September 3 (Sunday).
The second semifinal was keenly contested with both the teams matching each other in attack and defense. Though heavy rain made the ground slippery, it could not prevent players from showing their skill and technique.
After a barren first-half, Kalinga Bidyapitha stepped up its attack which led to Siba Prasad Bhoi drawing first blood in the 35th minute. His measured shot from inside the box slipped past the hands of the opposition goalkeeper and bulged the net. Suryakanta Majhi capped the victory, scoring the second goal seven minutes later.
Siba Prasad Bhoi was adjudged the player of the match and he received the prize from Tata Sponge Iron Managing Director Sanjay Pattnaik.
Today’s match was conducted by match commissioner Maheswar Singh along with referees Chandrakant Barik, Rajendra Barik, Asirbad Kanungo and Amit Nayak.
