Bhubaneswar: The Kalinga Rail Heritage Museum showcasing the history of the Indian Railways in eat coast region was inaugurated at Chandrasekharpur in the city on Saturday.
Inaugurating the museum, East Coast Railway (ECoR) general manager Vidya Bhushan said Indian railways in general and ECoR in particular has lots of untold stories about railways. “The aim of establishing a Rail Museum at Bhubaneswar is to preserve the old railway equipment, showcase the rich history of the Railways, enlighten the public about the Railways and its achievements and boost tourism,” he added.
Old equipment, instruments, technology devices and models have also been preserved in the Heritage Museum which also has an impressive display of artefacts and photographs.
In the indoor section, various documents, old manuals, railway maps, equipment and photographs from early days of the Railways in India are on display. There are also postage stamps and logos.
Additional General Manager, ECoR Sudhir Kumar, Divisional Railway Manager, Khurda Road Rinkesh Roy and other principal heads of departments of ECoR were present.
