Bhubaneswar: Ahmed Jahouh’s 21st-minute strike proved to be enough for Odisha FC to launch their Kalinga Super Cup campaign on a winning note here on Friday.
The Moroccan midfielder aimed for goal from a direct free-kick and hit bullseye against Bengaluru FC at the Kalinga Stadium.
The other teams that defending champions Odisha FC will face in Group D are Inter Kashi (Jan 17) and FC Goa (Jan 22).
The top teams from each of the four groups will advance to the semifinals.
The 1-0 verdict was Odisha FC’s third straight triumph over Bengaluru FC.
Both teams had their share of chances. While Isak Ralte, Puitea and Roy Krishna failed to double Odisha’s lead, Bengaluru were denied an equaliser at least twice by goalkeeper Lalthuammawia Ralte.
