New Delhi: Former goalkeeper Kalyan Chaubey was on Friday elected as the new president of the All India Football Federation (AIFF).
Chaubey (45) beat Bhaichung Bhutia by a margin of 33-1 votes.
Former India captain Bhutia, also 45 years old, did not have many supporters in the 34-member voters’ list and could not even get his state association representative as proposer or seconder for his nomination papers, according to reports.
The AIFF conducted its first elections after nearly six years at its headquarters in New Delhi.
N A Haris, president of the Karnataka State Football Association, was elected vice-president, while Kipa Ajay of Arunachal Pradesh won the treasurer’s post.
