Bhubaneswar: The railway authorities announced ex-gratia assistance for the kin of one passenger who died and also for those injured in the derailment of the Bangalore-Kamakhya AC Superfast Express near Nergundi in Odisha’s Cuttack district on Sunday.
The railways announced a detailed investigation into the derailment. Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS), South Eastern Circle, Kolkata under Ministry of Civil Aviation Shri Brijesh Mishra will inspect the derailment site on Sunday night as part of the probe, official sources said.
An ex-gratia of Rs 5,00,000 will be provided to the next of kin of the deceased, while Rs 2,50,000 will be given to those with grievous injuries and Rs 50,000 to those with simple injuries, a statement from East Coast Railway (ECoR) said.
The only fatality confirmed in the mishap was 22-year-old Suvankar Roy, who lost his life in the derailment, it said.
Railway authorities have also provided immediate medical assistance to the injured passengers.

Ongoing Investigation:
Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) will hold the detailed inquiry of the incident of derailment of coaches of 12551 Bangalore-Kamakhya AC SF Express. Efforts are underway to restore normalcy to the affected routes as soon as possible. Safety protocols have been strictly followed during the rescue operations.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased and wish the injured passengers a speedy recovery. Further updates will be shared as the situation develops,” the statement added.
