Mumbai: Days after announcing his film with Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan has addressed reports of director Sundar C’s sudden exit from the project.
“Sundar C has explained the reason for his withdrawal from the project through a press release. I don’t have anything to add to it. As an investor, I want a script that my star likes for the film. That is the healthy way to go about it. We will keep searching for the right stories until he likes it. Until my star is satisfied with the script, we will keep scouting for it. We are currently in the process of finalising a quality script,” Kamal told reporters outside Mumbai airport on Saturday.
Asked what kind of stories they are looking to work on, he added, “Expect the unexpected.”
Earlier this month, Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan announced they are collaborating for a film tentatively titled ‘Thalaivar 173’, scheduled to release on Pongal in 2027.
Days after the announcement, the film’s director Sundar C released a statement stating that he has opted out of the project.
Apologising to fans, Sundar said, “In life, there are moments when we must follow the path laid out for us, even if it diverges from our dreams. My association with these two icons goes back a long way, and I will always hold them in the highest regard. The special moments we have shared over the past few days will be cherished forever by me. They have taught me invaluable lessons, and I will continue to seek their inspiration and wisdom as I move forward.”
