Bhubaneswar: Well-known Odia litterateur Kamala Satpathy has been selected for the prestigious Kendra Sahitya Akademi Prize for translation for 2022.
The Kendra Sahitya Akademi on Saturday announced the award for Odia to Satpathy for her translation ‘Suneli Badala’ of the Telugu novel ‘Vendi Megham’ by Syed Saleem.
Having carved a special identity in the world of Odia literature, Satpathy has written a number of books apart from translating works of distinguished writers from other languages.
Prominent among her works are ‘Indradhanura Ashtama Ranga’, ‘Purhacheda Parara Kahani’, ‘Chiradhadi’, ‘Sesha Phaguna’, ‘Hai Mumbai’, ‘Salam Mumbai’and ‘Hello Bhutan’.
Recipient of many awards, Satpathy has been honoured with ‘Sudhanya Galpa Samman’, Kalinga Book Fair Award and Rajdhani Book Fair Samman.
The book was selected on the basis of the recommendation made by a three-member jury in accordance with the rules an procedure laid down for the purpose.
According to the procedure, the award was decided on the basis of unanimous decision of the jury.
The names of the jury members on whose recommendations the award was decided are Amarendra Khatua, Asit Mohanty and Susmita Rath.
