Bhubaneswar: Is an Odia web series on former bureaucrat VK Pandian in the making? One will believe so going by a poster released by Kanccha Lannka, an OTT platform.
Kancha Lanka’s managing director Bibhu Rath has uploaded the first poster on its forthcoming project titled “Sachiv, the man in a hurry” on the Facebook. The poster has 2025 written in the background with a partially visible elderly man playing chess in the foreground. The series is created and directed by Jagdish Mishra.
It is speculated in the Odia film circle that the series may be based on the rise and fall of Pandian and the all important role he played in Odisha politics.
Pandian, an IAS officer, had resigned from his post and plunged into active politics by joining BJD before the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections earlier this year. He had singlehandedly carried on an aggressive campaign for the ruling BJD during the elections.
He was considered as most powerful man in the BJD government, next only to party president and then chief minister Naveen Patnaik. As a personal secretary to the chief minister, he was also very close to Naveen.
During the campaign he had expressed optimism of emphatic victory for the BJD and swearing of Naveen as chief minister for sixth consecutive term. He had also gone to the extent of announcing in public meetings that he would retire from politics, if BJD loses the election.
Unfortunately for him, BJD suffered a huge loss in both Assembly and Lok Sabha elections, making way for the BJP to form government in the state for the first time. Keeping his words, Pandian retired from Odisha politics and virtually went into oblivion.
