Phulbani: Life was thrown out of gear in Odisha’s Kandhamal district on Thursday following a 12-hour dawn-to-dusk bandh, over the incident of a Class VIII girl delivering a baby in the hostel of a Sevashram High School at Daringbadi on January 12.
All business establishments downed shutters, and vehicles stayed off the roads in the district during the bandh called by Kandhamal Suraksha Abhiyan with the support of the state unit of the BJP.
The BJP activists and members of the Kandhamal Suraksha Abhiyan staged blockades at Daringbagi, Baliguda and Raikia, demanding Rs 50 lakh compensation to the family of the victim, resignation of SC and ST Development Minister Ramesh Majhi and Women and Child Development Minister Prafulla Samal, immediate transfer of the district collector and a judicial probe into the incident.
