Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s Kandhamal is among the Top 10 districts adjudged winners in ‘World Toilet Day’ contest organised by Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation (MDWS) from November 9 to 19.
Held across the country, it was a step towards re-intensifying ‘Swachh Bharat Jan Andolan’ at the grassroots. The competition was led by district collectors/magistrates and CEOs (Zila Parishads) of 412 districts from 25 states and union territories, a MDWS release said.
The 10-day period witnessed massive mass mobilization towards a ‘clean India’ through sustained Open Defecation Free (ODF) status and IEC and SLWM activities.
Besides Kandhamal, Khurda, Jharsuguda and Mayurbhanj of Odisha have found place in the ‘special mention’ category (Top 42).
The districts will be awarded certificates for their contribution to rural sanitation, the release added.
