Bhubaneswar: Singer, actor and entrepreneur Rihanna set the internet on fire with a simple tweet of 50 characters, “Why aren’t we talking about this?”. She was referring to a CCN report about the internet shutdown on the outskirts of Delhi where hundreds of farmers are protesting against the newly enacted farm laws.
Her question was followed an exclamation sign and the now popular hashtag #FarmersProtest.
The international pop icon won appreciation for showing the courage to notice a contentious matter taking place in India.
Referring to the same news article, 18-year-old Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg also tweeted: “We stand in solidarity with the #FarmersProtest in India.”
These tweets had Twitterati question the silence of the Indian film industry, who were all over the internet when #blacklivesmatter trended on Twitter, on the ongoing protest by the farmers for over last two months.
The most vocal among the Indian stars, however, spoke up only to be trolled by millions of Rihanna’s followers.
Replying to Rihanna’s tweet, ‘Queen’ actor Kangana Ranaut branded the protesting farmers as terrorists, who are trying to divide India, and called the singer a “fool”.
She has long been opposing the farmers’ protest.
