New Delhi: Actress-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut has approached the Delhi High Court seeking the removal of allegedly obscene and AI-generated content featuring her that is circulating online.
The court has issued summons in the matter, with Kangana seeking legal action against the dissemination of such content.
The actor claimed that the material is defamatory, seeks to tarnish her reputation and infringes on her personality rights. Kangana, the BJP MP from Mandi, moved the high court on Thursday seeking legal intervention.
During the hearing, her counsel objected to the circulation of sexual and pornographic material, fake news and AI-generated content that allegedly misrepresents the actor-politician or falsely attributes statements to her.
Kangana’s legal team clarified that the plea was specifically aimed at obscene and allegedly fabricated content circulating online, rather than memes featuring the actor-politician.
The lawyer told the court that while memes and other objectionable satirical material were also available online, the petition was not seeking relief against such content at this stage.
After hearing Kangana’s plea, Justice Vikas Mahajan issued summons to the defendants in the actor’s lawsuit seeking protection of her personality rights.
According to a PTI report, the court also indicated that it would pass an interim order in the matter.
Kangana is not the only celebrity to have approached the court seeking protection of personality rights and removal of AI-generated content featuring her.
Over the past few months, several public figures, including prominent actors, have moved the high court seeking protection of their personality and publicity rights.
Those who have taken the legal route include Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Salman Khan and actor-politician Pawan Kalyan, who is also the Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh.
On the work front, Kangana was last seen in Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata, which hit theatres in June and received positive reviews.
Directed by Manoj Tapadia, the film draws inspiration from the courage of doctors, nurses and hospital staff who protected patients during the 2008 Mumbai attacks at Cama Hospital.
