The 67th National Film Awards announcement brought much cheer to her as she added another feather to her cap having been adjudged the Best Actress for her films Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi and Panga.

Kangana has reached the second spot of bagging the most National Awards. She now has four of them in her kitty. Bollywood veteran Shabana Azmi, who has bagged five awards, is the actress with the most National Film Awards.

Over the years, Kangana Ranaut has given several hits namely Queen, Tanu Weds Manu, Fashion and Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi proving her prowess and shutting all criticisms coming her way.

Born on March 23, 1987, she has also won four Filmfare Awards and featured six times in Forbes India’s Celebrity 100 list.

In 2020, she was conferred with Padma Shri, the country’s fourth-highest civilian award.

Born in Bhambla, a small town in Himachal Pradesh, Kangana initially aspired to become a doctor at the insistence of her parents. Determined to build her own career, she relocated to Delhi at the age of sixteen and took up modelling for a brief period of time.

Here are a few lesser-known facts about her:

  • Her real name is ‘Kangana Amardeep Ranaut’ and she is fondly called Arshad.
  • Kangna has a younger sister, Rangoli, who was attacked with acid in 2005. Rangoli lives with Kangana in Mumbai and has now fully recovered.
  • Kangana was picked by Pahlaj Nihalani for ‘I Love You Boss’ in 2004 but she dropped out of it to debut with ‘Gangster’.
  • Kangana is only the third actress in the history of Indian cinema to win two back-to-back National Award for Best Actress. She won her first National Award for ‘Queen’ in 2015 and the second for ‘Tanu Weds Manu 2’ in 2016. The other two actresses who won back-to-back National Award are Shabana Azmi and Archana.
  • Kangana turned down a Rs 2 crore offer to promote a fairness cream. Her refusal is also backed by a powerful quote,
“Ever since I was a kid, I have never understood the concept of fairness. Especially, in such a case, as a celebrity, what kind of an example would I be setting for younger people? I have no regrets about turning this offer down. As a public figure, I have responsibilities.”
