Kangana Ranaut Takes Dig At Sonia Gandhi With ‘The Odyssey’ Meme Amid Vande Mataram Row

Mumbai: BJP MP and actor Kangana Ranaut has taken a fresh swipe at Congress leader Sonia Gandhi amid the controversy surrounding her alleged reaction during the rendition of Vande Mataram at the Congress headquarters on Independence Day.

Kangana shared a meme featuring a scene from Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’, in which Odysseus is seen screaming after encountering the mythical Sirens and their captivating song.

In Greek mythology, the Sirens were mythical creatures whose enchanting voices were said to lure sailors towards their deaths.

The meme drew a comparison between Odysseus’ dramatic reaction to the Sirens and Sonia’s alleged response during the rendition of Vande Mataram, appearing to mock the Congress leader.

The meme carried the caption, “Sonia Gandhi after 2nd verse.”

Sharing the post, Kangana wrote, “I usually don’t enjoy or post memes but this one cracked me up 😂”

The controversy erupted after several BJP leaders accused Sonia of objecting to the complete rendition of Vande Mataram during the flag-hoisting ceremony at the Congress headquarters.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also alleged that Sonia had asked for the song to be stopped midway through the event.

On Sunday, complaints were lodged against Sonia and Rahul Gandhi over allegations of disrespecting the national song.

The Congress, however, rejected the allegations and maintained that there was no attempt to interrupt or stop the complete rendition of Vande Mataram.

The party clarified that Sonia was merely asking for a chair for Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, who had reportedly been standing for some time.
