Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency Faces Protest In Punjab, Releases Today

Amritsar: Members of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee gathered outside various cinema halls in Amritsar to protest over the screening of actress Kangana Ranaut’s film ‘Emergency,’ which has hit the theatres today (Jan 17). SGPC urged the Punjab government to impose a ban forthwith on the movie ‘Emergency’ in all the cinema halls in the state.

The protest led to the deployment of heavy police forces to maintain law and order. SGPC expressed concerns over the film’s portrayal of historical event.

Directed by Kangana and produced by Zee Studios, Manikarnika Films, and Renu Pitti, ‘Emergency’ revolves around the emergency declared by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1975.

Besides Kangana (who plays the titular role), the film also stars Anupam Kher, Mahima Chaudhary, Milind Soman, Shreyas Talpade, Vishak Nair and the late Satish Kaushik.
