Bhubaneswar: Odisha Police have executed 3988 non-bailable warrants (NBWs) during a special drive from March 7 to 14.
The highest of 452 criminals were nabbed by Ganjam police followed by Kendrapada (307) and Balasore (298). Some of them had been evading arrest for 20 to 30 years.

According to an official release, the main aim of the drive was to bring the absconders who were avoiding trial, to justice and thereby expedite trials held up for that reason. Special attention was given to cases where NBW was pending for a long time, especially in GR and ST cases.

“3395 warrants were in GR and ST cases and remaining 593 in other cases,” it said.
The Odisha DGP ha issued appreciation letters for the SPs of Ganjam, Kendrapada and Balasore, the release added.
The fifth accused in the sensational murder of Ollywood music director Sumanta Mohanty, which took place on October 10, 2008, was also nabbed during this drive.
