Bhubaneswar: The irrigation project at Kanpur in Odisha’s Keonjhar district would be completed by June and its reservoir used to store the excess water in the monsoon.
This was stated by chief secretary Suresh Chandra Mahapatra during visit to the project site on Saturday. He took stock of the progress of the project with the officials and directed them to speed up the works for completion in time. With this, 4 large irrigation projects would be completed and around 2,200 hectare of crop land irrigated for the benefit of the farmers, he said.
The chief secretary told the National Highway authorities to complete the three-lane work on the bridge being constructed downstream of the project by February and make it usable for vehicular traffic.
He also made a field visit to construction site of Rourkela-Keonjhar National Highway on Rajmundaru to Rimili stretch and flyover on Joda-Bamaberi road. Stating that all issues concerning the project have been resolved, he directed the officials to complete it by October.
Mahapatra also reviewed the progress of other important projects including those taken up with district mineral fund and told the officials to complete those as per the deadline.
Keonjhar district collector Ashis Thakre and other senior officials accompanied the chief secretary during his visit.
