Anugola: A kanwariya went missing while his companion was rescued after being swept away while collecting water from a stream in Odisha’s Anugola district.
Sources said a group of kanwariyas had gone to a stream near Dipirisingha in the district on Sunday night to collect water to offer to Lord Shiva during the holy month of Shravan.
While collecting water, two of the devotees were swept away by the strong current, fire service officials said.
One of the two kanwariyas, identified as Smruti Ranjan, was rescued by locals and fire service personnel, while an operation was underway to trace the other person.
Ranjan claimed the incident took place due to the sudden release of water from Derjang Dam.
Search operation has been intensified by fire service and police personnel to trace the missing kanwariya.
