Mumbai: Karan Johar on Tuesday announced that he will be stepping away from social media for a week.
Calling it a ‘digital detox’, the filmmaker asked the ‘universe’ to give him strength to stay away from social media distractions.
“Digital detox for a week. No doom scrolling! No DMs! No posts! May the universe give me the strength to stay away,” Karan shared on Instagram stories.

Last week, Karan had shared a post in which he slammed haters for trolling his close friend, ‘Border 2’ actor Varun Dhawan.
Lauding Varun’s performance, Karan wrote, “Has to be said… the reason why it’s called a virtual world! Real will always score and prove the noise on social media as defunct! You can troll an artist for his smile but then he laughs when the film releases to packed houses and he receives pure authentic audience love! So noisemakers and clickbait seeking content creators can do what they like … truth will always prevail!”
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Karan had quit Twitter citing toxicity on the platform. However, he remained active on Instagram.
Directed by Neeraj Ghaywan, Karan’s home production ‘Homebound’ was selected as India’s entry for the Oscars last year. However, the film, starring Ishaan Khatter, Vishal Jethwa, and Janhvi Kapoor, failed to make it to the top 5.
