Mumbai: As the Met Gala 2026 draws near, there is curiosity over which stars from Hollywood and Bollywood will attend the iconic fashion event.

The buzz is that Karan Johar may finally make his debut at the gala this year.

Speculation gained momentum on April 30 after a post by Variety India suggested that the ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’ director could walk the famed red carpet on May 4.

There has been no official confirmation yet.

KJo is unlikely to attend the event alone, and is expected to be joined by Natasha Poonawalla, a regular at the Met Gala known for her bold style choices, along with designer Manish Malhotra, who shares a close personal and longstanding professional bond with Karan.

Karan will reportedly wear a custom outfit designed by Manish for the occasion.

Known for his maximalist fashion sense and experiment

al style, his take on this year’s theme is expected to grab attention.

Karan’s reported Met Gala debut comes on the heels of a significant moment for Indian representation on the global stage.

At the 2025 edition, themed ‘Superfine: Tailoring Black Style’, Shah Rukh Khan made a memorable first appearance in a striking all-black ensemble by Sabyasachi Mukherjee.

Karan, who has often shared his takes on Met Gala fashion from the sidelines, now seems ready to take centrestage himself.

Held every year on the first Monday of May, the Met Gala continues to be one of the most exclusive and closely watched events in the fashion world.

The 2026 theme, ‘Costume Art’, will spotlight the Costume Institute’s spring exhibition, exploring the relationship between fashion, the human form, and artistic expression.

With the official dress code titled ‘Fashion Is Art’, the red carpet is expected to feature bold, sculptural, and avant-garde looks that treat the body as a canvas.

The evening will be hosted by a star-studded panel including Beyonce, Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams, and Anna Wintour.

As anticipation builds for May 4, fans are keen to see how Karan and Manish interpret the theme into a standout moment for Indian couture.
