New Delhi: The Madhya Pradesh High Court on Thursday issued a notice to Bollywood actor Kareena Kapoor Khan for using the word ‘Bible’ in the title of her book on pregnancy. on a petition seeking registration of a case against her for using the word ‘Bible’ in the title of her book on pregnancy. The book is titled “Kareena Kapoor Khan’s Pregnancy Bible”.
Single-judge Justice Gurpal Singh Ahluwalia issued the notice on a plea filed by advocate Christopher Anthony who moved the High Court challenging an order passed by an Additional Sessions Court in February 2022, BarandBench reported.
The petitioner said that a First Information Report (FIR) should be registered against Kareena Kapoor Khan for allegedly hurting the sentiments of the Christian community. Besides Khan, the other respondents to the plea are Amazon Online Shopping, Juggernaut Books and the co-author of the book.
Anthony had initially filed a complaint with a local police station in Jabalpur alleging that Khan’s act hurt the sentiments of the Christian Community as the ‘holy book Bible’ cannot be compared with the actor’s pregnancy. However, when the police refused to lodge a case, the advocate moved a Magistrate court and filed a private complaint. The Magistrate too rejected the plea on the ground that the complainant failed to establish how the use of the word ‘Bible’ hurt the sentiments of the Christian community. He then moved the Additional Sessions Court, which too refused to grant any relief.
This led to the plea before the High Court.
