Bengaluru: Amid the row over wearing hijab by students, schools and colleges in Karnataka will be closed for the next three days.
Chief Minister Basavaraj S Bommai tweeted that he has ordered all high schools and colleges to stay shut “to maintain peace and harmony”.
Questioning hijab restrictions, petitions filed by five women from a government college in Udupi are being heard by the Karnataka High Court.
“This court has full faith in the wisdom and virtue of public at large and it hopes that the same would be put to practice,” Justice Dixit Krishna Shripad of the high court said which will continue the hearing on Wednesday.
“I appeal to all the students, teachers and management of schools and colleges as well as people of Karnataka to maintain peace and harmony. I have ordered closure of all high schools and colleges for next three days. All concerned are requested to cooperate,” the Chief Minister tweeted before the court proceedings ended on Tuesday.
