Chennai: Ahead of state Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu, actor-politician Thalapathy Vijay has been summoned by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for another round of questioning in the Karur stampede case.
According to PTI, the CBI has issued a fresh notice asking the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief to appear before its officials on March 10.
Officials said they need some more clarification based on evidence collected during the investigation.
The ‘Jana Nayagan’ actor was earlier questioned by th
e central agency on January 10 and 19.
The investigation is related to the stampede that took place on September 27 last year in Karur, where 41 people died and more than 60 were injured during Vijay’s political rally.
The Karur stampede case, initially handled by a Special Investigation Team (SIT), was transferred to the CBI on the Supreme Court’s direction.
Vijay of late has been in the news for other reasons, personal matters, to be precise.
His wife Sangeeta Sornalingam recently filed for divorce after more than 26 years of marriage. The divorce petition claims that Vijay is involved in an extramarital relationship with a female actor, which Sangeeta came to know in 2021.
Recent images of Vijay attending a wedding reception of film producer Kalpathi Suresh’s son with actress Trisha Krishnan gained a lot of attention. Vijay and Trisha reportedly arrived in the same car and later left together as well.
