Kashmir Village Gets Electricity For The First Time Since India’s Independence

New Delhi: The people of the tribal area in Tethan, Dooru of Kashmir’s Anantnag district witnessed the lighting of electric bulbs under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Har Ghar Bijli Yojna” for the first time in 75 years

The whole village was filled with joy when the first bulb was illuminated by the Power Development Department employees. Locals started dancing and singing around the transformers placed in the villages, news agency ANI reported.

This means that children here will no longer have to study under candlelight.

“Har Ghar Bijli Yojana” targets to illuminate every village house in the country. It was launched by PM Modi in 2019. Two main transformers with around 38 HT poles and 57 LT Poles have been placed in the Tethan village.

Fayaz Ahmad Sofi, Technical officer, Power Development Department, Anantnag told ANI, “We had started the process of networking in 2022. But there was an issue of tapping of a High Tension line. Today electricity was provided to this remote area. We installed a 63 (KV) transformer here. Residents of this village have seen electricity for the first time after 75 years.”
