Mumbai: After a long hiatus from the silver screen, Katrina Kaif is reportedly planning a comeback with ‘Chandni Bar 2’.
According to a report in Filmfare, the sequel to Madhur Bhandarkar’s ‘Chandni Bar’ will also star Tabu in the lead and is likely to be based on “the red-light area and crime ecosystem.”
Katrina gave birth to a baby boy in November, her first child with husband Vicky Kaushal.
Helmed by Bhandarkar, ‘Chandni Bar’ featured Tabu and Atul Kulkarni in lead r
oles, along with Ananya Khare, Rajpal Yadav, Minakshi Sahani and Vishal Thakkar in supporting roles.
The movie revolved around Mumbai underworld, prostitution, dance bars and gun crime.
Last year, filmmaker Bhandarkar, who helmed the critically acclaimed ‘Chandni Bar’, lodged a complaint with the Indian Motion Picture Producers’ Association (IMPPA) against producer Sandeep Singh and director Ajay Bahl over the use of the film’s title.
IMPPA then issued a notice to Sandeep and his production banner, directing them to refrain from using the ‘Chandni Bar’ title.
Subsequently, co-producer Vishal released a statement addressing the controversy surrounding the proposed film.
“Sandeep Singh’s Legend Studios has acquired the Option Rights of the said title from the Original Producers, who are also the owners of the Registered Trademark and IP owner of the original cult classic Chandni Bar (2001). We want to state that no other banner can legally make the said film. Our IP lawyers are replying to the concerned trade associations and are taking all necessary steps to validate and protect our legal rights,” he said.
