New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s nephew was arrested on Thursday by the anti-corruption bureau in connection with the PWD scam. Vinay Bansal, son of Kejriwal’s deceased Surendra Kumar was arrested and sent to one-day judicial custody.
The Anti-Corruption Branch had sought three-day plea, which was rejected by the Delhi Court after he fainted.
“Since the medical condition of the accused is not good, I do not consider it appropriate to send him to police custody on Thursday. The application of the investigating officer (IO) is accordingly dismissed,” Metropolitan Magistrate Neeti Suri Mishra said.
Bansal had fainted during the hearing and the proceedings were halted for some time.
The Anti-Corruption Bureau had registered three FIRs against Vinay in May last year.
The complaint was filed by Rahul Sharma, founder of Roads Anti-Corruption Organisation alleging that Kejriwal and Satyendra Jain had misused their office and granted contracts to Bansal.
The tender was awarded to Surendra Kumar Bansal company Renu Construction for road and sewer projects.
The Police stated that the arrest was made after they were not satisfied woth answers pertaining to Mahadev Company.
However, the Aam Aadmi Party has cried political vendetta over the issue.
“Contractors are asked to submit bills of the material used to ensure their quality. The quality of all this material has been inspected and certified by IIT Roorkee and SriRam Labs. These two are the most reputed labs in the country. So, where is the scam?” tweeted Saurabh Bharadwaj, Spokesperson, AAP.
