Kendrapara: A group of women staged a road blockade on Kendrapara-Orat road on Wednesday, demanding immediate relocation of two liquor shops here.
Raising slogans against the district administration, the agitators alleged that the officials concerned have turned a deaf ear to their longstanding demand to shift liquor shops out of Angulaei Chhak.
“These liquor shops in the locality has led to rise in alcoholism among residents, especially the youth. As people are queuing up to buy liquor from these shops, law and order issues have also increased,” one of the agitating women said.
Vehicular movement on the busy road was disrupted for several hours due to the agitation. Police rushed to the spot and managed to pacify the protestors after assuring them that the higher authorities would be informed of their grievances.
