Kerala Serial Blasts: Delhi, Mumbai On High Alert; Man Surrenders Taking Responsibility

New Delhi: The nation’s Capital as well as India’s financial city were put on high alert after Sunday’s serial blasts in Kerala’s Kalamassery.

Delhi Police stepped up security in crowded areas of the city following blasts at a convention centre during a prayer meeting of Jehovah’s Witnesses

Mumbai Police also issued a high alert and increased security keeping in view of the Kerala blasts amid the festive season and upcoming World Cup matches at Wankhede Stadium.

Security had already been enhanced at Chabad House, a Jewish centre in Mumbai, because of the ongoing Israel-Hamas war.

“The Special Cell of Delhi Police is in constant touch with intelligence agencies and taking any input seriously. Security arrangements are being made at crowded places,” Delhi Police said in a statement.

A man named Dominic Martin, from Kerala’s Thrissur district, has surrendered to police claiming responsibility for the serial blasts that left one person dead and injured at least 40.

“One person has surrendered in Kodakara Police Station, in Thrissur Rural, claiming that he has done it. His name is Dominic Martin and he claims that he belonged to the same group of sabha. We are verifying it. We are looking into all aspects of this case… The blast took place in the central part of the hall,” informed Kerala ADGP (law and order) MR Ajith Kumar.

According to Kerala Police, an improvised explosive device (IED) was used in the attack.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke with Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan over phone and ordered the heads of NIA and NSG to send their specialised teams to the scene and start an inquiry.
