Bhubaneswar: A court in Odisha capital on Friday sentenced the accused in the sensational Khandagiri triple murder case in Bhubaneswar to rigorous imprisonment for life.

The court of ADJ-1 here sentenced Sneha Shawkhar Samal to life imprisonment after convicting him of murder committed ten years ago. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the convict. In case of failure to pay the penalty, Samal would have to undergo additional jail term for one year.

As per case record, Orthopaedic doctor Atulya Meher, his caretaker Prashant Behera, and the latter’s teenage son Minu were murdered in the doctor’s house near Khandagiri hills on October 14, 2014 in a gruesome manner.

The victims were stabbed to death with a knife and their bodies bore multiple injury marks. Prasant’s wife also suffered severe injuries after being stabbed while trying to resist the murderer.
As per reports, medicine representative Samal entered the house of the victim with a flower bouquet. He also carried a knife in his bag.

Samal’s first victim was Prashant. As Prashant’s son, 14-year-old Minu came running on hearing his father’s cries, he was also stabbed. The third victim was Prashant’s wife Runu, who survived.  The doctor was the last to be attacked by Samal.

After committing the crime, Samal tried to flee but he was overpowered by local residents. On being informed, Khandagiri Police reached the spot and arrested Samal.

As per reports, Samal killed the doctor in an act of revenge as he couldn’t afford the costly medicines prescribed by the doctor for the treatment of daughter.
