Bhubaneswar: The Odisha women’s beach football team made history on Saturday when they were crowned champions in the inaugural Khelo India Beach Games in Diu.
In a hard-fought final, Odisha prevailed 3-2 over Gujarat. Captain Jasoda Munday scored two goals for Odisha.
Odisha tasted success in sepak takraw also, with the men’s and women’s teams bagging a silver and two bronze medals.
Manipur emerged team champions in the first Khelo India Beach Games. Though they won the same number of gold medals as Maharashtra, Nagaland, Haryana and Jammu & Kashmir (5 each), Manipur pipped the other four on silver count (6).
