New Delhi: Odisha edged out Punjab 2-1 to bag a gold medal in the boys’ hockey final at the Khelo India School Games here on Thursday. With this, Odisha wrapped up the Games with a total of nine medals – three Gold, one silver and five 5 bronze medals.
Odisha, who had beaten Uttar Pradesh in the semi-final, produced another stellar performance with Sushil Dhanwar and Sudeep Chirmako scoring one goal each in the final match.
In girls’ football, Odisha clinched a bronze medal after defeating West Bengal 8-0. Another bronze medal was added, courtesy SR Sahoo in Boxing 63 kg category.
Earlier, Odisha had won three medals (1 gold, 1 silver, 1 bronze) in weightlifting, while swimmer Pratyasha Ray won two bronze in 100 and 200 m backstroke. Punga Soren had bagged the first gold medal for Odisha in 110m hurdles.
