Rourkela: Star cyclist of Odisha, Swasti Singh has brought laurels for her state by winning a gold medal in the 7500 metres Track Scratch event in the Under-21 Girls category at the ongoing third Khelo India Youth Games in Guwahati on Tuesday.
Swasti finished with a timing of 14:53.23 minutes. She had also won a silver medal in the 60 km Mass Start event with a timing of 2 hours 11 minutes 52.21 seconds on Monday.
Daughter of Uma Devi and Amar Singh of Oxygen Plant of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), Swasti learnt the nuances of cycling at Biju Pattnaik Hockey Stadium under the watchful eyes of Sushil Das, the cycling coach of RSP.
Recently, she had won a silver medal in the South Asian Games 2019. Her streak of successes includes her recent success at the 24th National Road Cycling Championship-2019 held at Jaipur where she won a gold and bronze in two events.
Earlier, she had won a bronze medal in the 2-km individual pursuit for India in the Track Asia Cup Cycling Championship in New Delhi last year. She had also won a gold medal in the 2-km women junior individual event in the 5th Asian Track Cycling Championship organised by the Cycling Federation of India in New Delhi in 2018.
