Jajpur: Assistant collector of Khurda, Ashwini Kumar Nayak, and his driver were critically injured after their SUV was involved in a head-on collision with a truck in Jajpur district on Tuesday.
As per information, the mishap took place on National Highway-16 near Mulapada chowk in Jajpur district when Nayak, along with his driver, was proceeding to Balasore from Bhubaneswar.
Police said a speeding truck rammed into the SUV and fled the scene immediately after the crash.
The crash left Nayak with fractures in his leg and arm, along with a head injury. His driver also suffered injuries in the incident.
The two were initially rushed to the community health centre (CHC) in Dharamsala. They were later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack in view of the severity of injuries.
The driver of the truck is absconding, while police have seized the damaged vehicle. They are examining CCTV footage from the area to identify the truck involved in the accident.
