Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange warning for six districts of Odisha till 5.30 pm on Monday.
Thunderstorm with gusty wind speed reaching 30- 40 kmph, lightning and intense spells of rain is likely in some parts of Khurda, Cuttack, Puri, Ganjam, Gajapati and Koraput in the next three hours. Lightning strikes are expected in these districts, which may also see water logging in low lying areas.
Yellow warning for thunderstorm and lightning has also been issued for Angul, Dhenkanal, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar during this period.
People have advised to keep a watch on the weather and accordingly move to safer places to protect from lightning strikes.
Notably, the IMD on Sunday had forecast thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is likely at one or two in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar. Light to moderate rain or thundershower may also occur at a few places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and at one or two places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Boudh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Nabarangpur, Mayurbhanj, Nuapada and Balangir, it said.
