Bhubaneswar: Khurda reported a record 342 COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, which pushed the affected tally to 6,445 on Sunday.
With this, the active cases in the district spiralled to 3,381, surpassing Ganjam’s 2,545.
The worst-hit South Odisha district saw an overnight addition of 222 new cases, which took the total to 12,855.
A total of 10,171 and 3,020 patients have recovered in Ganjam and Khura respectively.
The fatality rate, however, is much higher in Ganjam. While the virus has claimed 131 lives in Ganjam, Khurda has lost 35 patients to the infection.
These two districts occupy the top two spots in the affected tally in Odisha.
The rising positivity rate has become a concern for the state, though it has come down to 7 per cent from 10 per cent from 9.44 per cent since last Monday. It was 4-6 per cent till July 1.
