Three years after the critically-acclaimed film ‘Mimansa’, Mumbai-based Odia actor Saroj Parida will be seen in the upcoming ‘Khusi’.
Produced under the banner of Tarang Cine Productions, the realistic content has been directed by Tapas Sargharia. Though the film was earlier set to be released in November 2018, it has been delayed due to the release of ‘Prem Kumar’ and then due to the general election. As things stand now, the latest date is yet to be announced by the production house. Well-known artistes Mihir Das and Madhumita Mohanty will also be seen in the film.
“The subject is very much relevant. The story revolves around a small child who has been molested. The realistic content of the film will help in bringing a change in the Odia film scenario,” said the NSD graduate.
“I am playing the role of the child’s father. The highlights of the story are the suffering of the family, the reaction of the society and media intervention after the molestation. When director Tapas Sargharia narrated the subject, I loved it. I felt the story needed to be told as child molestation is on rise in our country,” said the actor.
Parida left a remarkable impression in the 2016 release, ‘Mimansa’. The film, directed by Chakradhara Sahoo received critical acclaim too. Parida has been actively involved in theatre, commercials and documentary films in Mumbai a after completing an acting course from NSD in 2005.
“I would love to work in more Odia movies if I am given an opportunity. There are good directors in Odisha, what is lacking is good script,” said Parida.
Recalling NSD’s role in shaping him as an actor, he says the institute gave him ample opportunity to learn from the best of faculty. “As no Odia film personality is in an influential position to help a newcomer in Mumbai, getting a break is very difficult,” he added before signing off.
