Balasore: Police have rescued a kidnapped student of Shantiniketan in West Bengal and arrested 5 kidnappers from Odisha’s Balsore district.
According to sources, the student, identified as Panchara Thai of Myanmar, was doing his PhD at Visva Bharati in Shantiniketan. He was staying in a hostel outside the campus.
Around 12 businessmen from West Bengal kidnapped Thai from near his hostel on September 21 and took him to Chandipur. Apprehending that the police would trace them, the kidnappers brought the student to Balasore. Seven kidnappers returned from Balasore.
After a complaint was filed about missing Thai by the university authorities, Medinipur police started investigation. They checked footage of the CCTV near the hostel and kept his mobile phone on tracking. On Saturday, the police could know that Thai’s phone was active in Talasari beach of Balasore.
Medinipur police with the help of Talasari Marine police station traced Thai and rescued him. The five kidnappers, who were keeping a watch on him, were also arrested.
