Keonjhar: A youth, who was allegedly kidnapped over non-repayment of loans from Nandipada village, was rescued by police from Tolankapada forest in Odisha’s Keonjhar on Sunday .
A police team is questioning the alleged kidnappers and ascertaining motive behind the act.
The youth, Sanatan Nayak belongs to Pandado village under Hatadihi block.
According to sources, the incident took place when the Sanatan along with his father Narendra Nayak was returning from JMFC court on a motorcycle after a hearing in connection with a case against him over no-payment of loans which he took and lost in online games. They were intercepted by youths, who demanded their money back.
They then roughed up the father-son duo and abducted Sanatan from the spot after he fell unconscious. Nandipada villagers rescued Narendra and rushed him to a local hospital for treatment.
Narendra’s wife filed a complaint with Nandipada police alleging that the abductors were demanding Rs 5 lakh as ransom to release Sanatan.
Sanatan was into online games and non-repayment of loans could have resulted in his abduction, sources added.
