Bhubaneswar: As a part of its continuous endeavour to promote sports and sportspersons in the state, Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) on Wednesday felicitated three athletes from Odisha, who won medals in
the recently concluded Asian Athletics Championships (AAC).
Dutee Chand, who won two bronze medals in 4×100 relay and 100m race, was awarded cash prize of Rs 3 lakh and Srabani Nanda (winner of bronze medal in 4×100 relay races) Rs 1.5 lakh. Similarly, Purnima Hembram, who won bronze medal in heptathlon, was handed over cash award of Rs 1.5 lakh.
N Ramesh, coach of Dutee Chand, Nilamadhab Deo, coach of Srabani, and athlete Jauna Murmu were also felicitated and so was Saina Salonika of KiiT International School, who won gold medal in under-14 year category in Commonwealth Chess Championship held in Delhi.
Among others, KIIT and KISS founder Dr. Achyuta Samanta, sprinter Anuradha Biswal, CRPF IG K K Sharma, cricketers Debasis Mohanty and Siba Sundar Das and footballer Shradhanjali Samantray were present.
