Nabarangpur: The wild bear, which had killed a man in a forest in Odisha’s Nabarangpur district, was beaten to death by the locals on Saturday.
As per reports, the man, identified as Brijesh Kmar Dwivedi of Mahir in Madhya Pradesh, was engaged as a contractor of the Bharatmala road project being implemented in the district. In the morning, he had gone to take stock of the work in a forest area in Bhartasiuni near Bikrampur.
At the time, the bear arrived at the spot and attacked him. The wild animal dragged him into the forest and mauled him to death. Later, police and Forest personnel went to the site and recovered the body of the contractor. But they launched a search operation but failed to trace the bear.
After some time, the bear again appeared in the area and attacked two villagers. This led the villagers to launch a united effort to search the bear.
Armed with sticks and traditional weapons, hundreds of villagers spread out in the area. They spotted the bear in an open ground and attacked it by pelting stones. As the bear got injured and fell down, the villagers beat the animal to death.
On being informed, Forest officials rushed to the place and seized the body of the bear.
