‘Killer’ Leopard Caged In Odisha’s Nuapada [Watch]

Nuapada: A leopard, which reportedly killed two persons and injured another at Dharambandha panchayat in Nuapada district, was captured and caged by Forest Department personnel on Saturday night.

According to sources, the marauding leopard was spotted atop a building at Kodapali of Dharma Bandha area under the Sadar range last evening. Subsequently, a five-member team of the department reached the spot and put up a cage to trap the big cat. After five long hours, it was finally caged at around 11 pm.

Tension gripped the area soon after as irate locals pelted stones at the caged animal and attacked it with sticks. They were pacified by the team of Forest Department, which later shifted the injured leopard to Sadar range office around 1 am.

After being treated, the animal will be shifted to Nandankanan Zoological Park or any other forest, sources said.

While a seven-year-old boy was killed in a wild leopard attack on October 30 while playing in his village Godhaspara inside the Sunabeda Wildlife sanctuary, mutilated body of a 45-year-old woman of Silaribahara village adjoining the sanctuary was found in the forest on November 3 when she had gone to answer nature’s call in a nearby forest. The big cat attacked an eight-year-old boy in Kodopali village while he was playing in front of his house on November 4.
