Sundargarh: Tension ran high in Sundargarh Assembly constituency following a murderous assault on three BJD workers, including two brothers of the BJD candidate Jogesh Singh, allegedly by a group of BJP workers at Sargipalli late on Wednesday.
Reports said the two brothers of Singh — Naresh Pratap Singh and Ritesh Singh — and another BJD worker, Sumant Patel, had gone to Raibaga village in Sargipalli block at 1.45 pm when they were detained by 6-7 youths who, while accusing them of distributing the money among the villagers, attacked them with sharp weapons.
On being informed, police rushed to the spot and admitted the three seriously injured to the community health centre (CHC) at Sargipalli.
Talking to the media on Thursday, Yogesh Singh alleged that the attack on his two brothers was stage-managed by the BJP candidate.
Refuting the allegation, BJP candidate Kusum Tete said the people of Raibaga village protested when they saw BJD workers distributing money. This led a heated exchange of words, which turned ugly and violent.
