Kiren Rijiju Wins Over Internet As He Joins Rescue Effort After Vehicle Falls Into River [Watch]

Srinagar: Kiren Rijiju was the toast of Internet on Tuesday for his humanitarian act.

The Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs was travelling to Kargil when he noticed that a mini-truck had fallen into the river, and two men were standing atop the overturned vehicle desperately seeking assistance.

The flabbergasted Rijiju asked his driver to stop, and his convoy pulled he stepped down to check how the two men, whose vehicle had skidded off the road and rolled into a river in Ladakh, could be rescued.

Rijiju shared a video clip on X in which he is seen walking towards the riverbank and asking the stranded men how the mishap occurred, and enquiring if the truck’s brakes had failed. He also spoke with local authorities on the ground, looking to ensure that the duo was brought up from the river.

“Before reaching Drass (Kargil district) in Ladakh, one vehicle fell into the river just ahead of our convoy. Luckily, we were on time and both persons survived,” Rijiju wrote on X alongside the video.

As the video of Rijiju’s roadside act was widely shared, social media users lauded his quick response.

“Your visit saved both of their lives, sir,” wrote one X user.

“They were lucky enough that you were there on time,” commented another user.

Another person said, “Sir I could perceive that you were always looking to go down and help them.”

In another post, Rijiju recounted a “memorable moment” in Jammu and Kashmir’s Sonmarg, where he was warmly received by locals on Monday.

“On the way to Kargil I had memorable moment at Sonmarg. Grateful to both administrations of Ganderbal and Kargil. Thanks to senior guide Mohammad Sidiq Mir and other friends of Sonmarg for the wonderful company! Real development is happening now. Common people of Kashmir are great hosts & they are dead against the violence perpetrated by the enemies,” the BJP leader wrote.
