Kirron Kher Has Blood Cancer; Know Bollywood Female Actors Who Fought The Disease

Mumbai: Bharatiya Janata Party MP from Chandigarh Kirron Kher is suffering from multiple myeloma, a rare type of blood cancer and is currently under treatment in a hospital in Mumbai.

The actor-politician was undergoing treatment after the cancer was detected last year and was gradually recovering, India Today quoted a party member as saying.

Kirron had suffered a fracture in her left arm during her stay at her Chandigarh house in November last year.  The medical tests following the accident detected that multiple myeloma had spread to her left arm and right shoulder.

Although the cancer has receded from her arms, the veteran actress is still under treatment for a complete recovery.

Her husband, actor Anupam Kher shared the news on Twitter.

A number of Bollywood actresses have been fraught with the disease. Some like veterans Nargis and Nutan succumbed, mainly due to the lack of medical advancement at that time. In the recent past, Sonali Bendre, Lisa Ray and Manisha Koirala emerged victorious and continue to live happily to tell their stories and inspire others.
Sonali Bendre

The chirpy and good looking actress was diagnosed with metastatic cancer in 2018. She admitted to have had sleepless nights in the beginning to come to terms with the disease. News of her disease sent shock waves in the entire industry. She underwent treatment in New York and bounced back following treatment.)

Manisha Koirala

Manisha Koirala was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2012. She was 42 years. The ‘Di Se’ actress showed exemplary courage and shared her bald-headed photo on Instagram to inspire people and send out a message of positivity. She has been deeply involved in cancer awareness drives since then and was last seen in the role of Nargis Dutt in the movie ‘Sanju’.

Lisa Ray

The actress was suffering from cancer of the Plasma cells in 2009. She exuded positivity throughout her treatment. In fact photos of a bald Lisa and then with her hair growing back became a sort of a style statement. In 2010, she revealed that she was free of cancer after the successful treatment that involved a stem cell transplant. She became a proud mother of twins post her treatment.

Salute to these audacious souls who have proved that willpower, inner strength and unbridled support from relatives and friends is sufficient to bring you back from the clutches of death. More power to each one of them.

Tahira Kashyap

Though not an actress, Tahira is very much a part of the film industry by virtue of being Ayushmaann Khurrana’s wife and also in her own right as a producer and writer. Tahira was diagnosed with stage ‘0’ breast cancer in 2018 and was bold enough to post images of her scarred body and even went on to pen a book.

Mumtaz

Not many may know it but yesteryears’ heartthrob Mumtaz was also diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 54 but overcame it with the sheer courage to fight and live on.
