Bhopal: Odisha finished in ninth place at the Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG) 2023 in Madhya Pradesh.
Odisha sportspersons bagged a total of 30 medals – 11 gold, 8 silver and 11 bronze.
It was a great improvement from Odisha’s performance in the previous KIYG, held last year in Haryana. Odisha had managed just 1 gold, 5 silver and 3 silver medals to be placed way down at 26th.
This time, Odisha struck it rich in kayaking & canoeing, earning 4 gold, 3 silver and 4 bronze medals. Odisha’s athletes shone in track & field, claiming 4 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze medals.
Odisha’s other gold medals came from kho kho, rowing and tennis.
Maharashtra reclaimed their top status with 161 medals (56 gold, 55 silver, 50 bronze). Haryana, who had displaced Maharashtra at home last year, were second with 128 medals (41G, 32S, 55B).
