Chennai: Punjab Kings suffered their third defeat in four matches in IPL 2021, but their captain KL Rahul enjoyed a moment of personal glory at the MA Chidambaram Stadium here on Wednesday.
Rahul became the fastest Indian to reach 5000 runs in T20 cricket during the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Rahul reached the milestone in his 143rd innings, whereas Kohli had needed 167 innings.
Only veteran West Indies opener Chris Gayle has done better, having taken just 132 innings to aggregate 5000 runs in the Twenty20 format.
Rahul was dismissed for 4 as Sunrisers Hyderabad bowled out Punjab Kings for a modest 120. Jonny Bairstow then made an unbeaten 63 as Sunrisers Hyderabad won by 9 wickets.
