New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Friday named KL Rahul as captain of the Indian cricket team for the upcoming three-match ODI series against South Africa.
Pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been named vice-captain while white-ball skipper Rohit Sharma has been ruled out due to injury.
BCCI chief selector Chetan Sharma informed this in a virtual press conference on Friday. Sharma said “We decided not to send Rohit because he can work on his muscles. Needs to get 100 per cent fit for World Cup.”
Rohit was earlier ruled out of the squad for the ongoing Test series against South Africa too.
The 18-member squad includes opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan, Ruturaj Gaekwad, Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan. Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer and Venkatesh Iyer will form India’s strong middle order.
Ravichandran Ashwin has been recalled. Leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal and offie Washington Sundar will be the other two spinners in the series.
The pacers are Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Deepak Chahar, Prasidh Krishna, Shardul Thakur and Mohammed Siraj. Mohammed Shami has been rested for the series.
