Bhubaneswar: Odisha had another reason to cheer for as India’s Chandrayaan-3 mission took off for moon from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota on Friday.
While over 100 officials and workforce of Central Tool Room and Training Center (CTTC), Bhubaneswar, toiled for 2 years to provide critical components for the mission, Subhasish Nayak, a resident of Mukundapur village in Kendrapada district, was part of the technician team involved in making of Launch Vehicle Mark-III-M4 (LVM3-M4) rocket, dubbed as ‘Fat Boy’.
The 28-year-old Subhasish completed his matriculation from BB Model High School in 2010. He then enrolled for an ITI course at the Mahanadi Industrial Training Centre in Cuttack. He also trained at CTTC for three years before being selected to work as a mechanic at the UR Rao Satellite Centre in Bangalore in 2018.
He was involved in looking after the many technicalities involved in the launch of Chandrayaan 3.
Subhasish’s father Malay Nayak, who runs a shop that deals in various puja items at Chandol Baazar, said that he was always interested in mechanics. “After school, he decided to enrol in an ITI instead of going to college. We were excited to watch the launch of Chandrayaan-3,” he said.
His mother Nirmala Nayak, a homemaker, said that she cried in happiness seeing her son contributing to the mission.
