Bhubaneswar: Animesh Pradhan of Odisha has secured the second rank in the Civil Services Examination (CSE) 2023, the results of which was announced by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) on Tuesday.
It is after 20 year that Animesh has come close to Roopa Mishra’s number one rank in the CSE.

He had scored 98.8% in Class XII and was a student of DAV Public School, MCL, Kalinga area. He was also the head boy of the school for the academic year 2016-17, according to his Linkedin profile.
Aminesh has lost both his parents. His father, Prabhakar Pradhan, was the chairperson of Hingula Mahavidyalaya, Talcher, and passed away in in December 2015. He lost his mother, Aruna Patra, to cancer last month during his interview preparation. He has a sister, who is working with the Horticulture Department. “This was a dream from my higher secondary school days. It has finally come true. I wish, my parents were alive to see me become an IAS officer,” said the 24-year-old.
He opted for sociology as the optional subject in the UPSC examination.
Besides Animesh, Prajnanandan Giri and Ayushi Pradhan have cleared the exam and secured 24th and 36th ranks, respectively. Similarly, Abhimanyu Malik has bagged 60th rank, Jayashree Pradhan 52nd rank and Amritanshu Nayak 110th rank. Shubhra Panda, Rashmi Pradhan, Biswajit Panda and Sourav Das, also from Odisha, have secured 204, 319, 343 and 466 ranks respectively. Rakesh Kumar Sahoo and Anup Nayak have secured 575 and 1,001 ranks.
According to the UPSC, 1,016 applicants passed the test and have been advised to apply for various central government jobs.
The UPSC selects officers for the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), and Indian Police Service (IPS), among other services, through the three phases of the Civil Services Exam. The prelims 2023 was held on May 28 while 14,624 candidates took the mains examination on September 15, 16, 17, 23, and 24, 2023. A total of 2,855 candidates had appeared for the Personality Test. In a post on X, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated all those who have successfully cleared the Civil Services Examination, 2023. “Their hard work, perseverance and dedication has paid off, marking the start of a promising career in public service. Their efforts will shape the future of our nation in the times to come. My best wishes to them,” he added.
