New Delhi: As the whole world is reeling under the fear of coronavirus, researchers at the Institute of Molecular Virology, Ulm University Medical Center, Technische Universität Dresden, and CogniVerde GmbH have identified some food items that can kill the virus.
According to a report in India.com, the scientists used pomegranate juice, green tea, chokeberry and elderberry juice for carrying out their research.
During the study, the team of researchers added the COVID-19 virus in the above-mentioned beverages and incubated them at room temperature.
They found that chokeberry juice inactivated almost 97% of the virus in just 5 minutes, while pomegranate juice and green tea killed nearly 80%.
However, elderberry juice did did not have any effect on the virus.
The researchers then conducted a similar test with the swine flu virus. The study revealed that all the four herbal beverages (pomegranate juice, green tea, and chokeberry and elderberry juice) can inactivate around 99 per cent of the swine flu virus in just 5 minutes.
